ISIS-Khurasan on Indian Frontyard

Afghans awoke on last week to a country with absent U.S. forces. The future of the country is uncertain with Taliban 's harsh ideology — one that restricts women from education and employment, and metes out swift justice to anyone who breaches the group's harsh interpretation of Islamic law. ISIS-Khorasan Rise of ISIS-K But trust me, Talibans look moderate compared to the new menace in this accursed land of anarchy, the ISIS-K . This menance has reared its ugly backside with a loud fart as the terrorist attack on Kabul airport that took lives for over a dozen US marines, tens of Taliban fighters, and dozens of innocent Afghan citizens.  Afghanistan has long been a base for radical Islamist movements from Mujaheideens to Taliban. Isis-K was formed by members of A l-Qaeda ’s Pakistan branch as well as defectors from the Taliban and the Haqqani network, an ultra radicalgroup. The K refers to Khorasan , an area encompassing NW Pakistan, Afghanistan, central Asia, Southern Iran an...

Farmer's Turban

Ninja Policeman in India charging on 80 year old Farmer Something is morally wrong with the image of a young Indian policeman wearing protective guards and helmet hitting an 80 year old unarmed farmer during the farmers protest against the now publically tarnished farm bills. The policemen is demonstrating his trained skills to subdue the comman man with brute force.  So, whats wrong with this picture? Authoritarian oppresssion displayed in this picture reminds me of the 1907 ballad of defiance penned over a century ago to inspire farmers against the expoitive policies of the British. Punjab farmers who have dig in their heels against Centre at Delhi’s borders are experiencing the same oppression, propoganda, and malice sadly from their own government in an independent India.  The similarities between the two historical events is astounding and worth a discussion here. Farmers from Punjab, Haryna, and Western UP feel that farm laws passed by Indian parliament will ult...

Semiramis Queen of Assyria Did you know that Semiramis , the queen of Assyria attempted to conquer Punjab almost 500 years before Alexander? In fact she was the inspiration for Alexander the Great to invade India. Who was Semiramis .. and when did she come to Punjab? Who was Semiramis? Archaeologists have found evidence to piece together biography of Semiramis . In the ancient city of Nimrud (Iraq), two statues mention her name. There are also two stelae, one from Kizkapanli (Turkey) and another from Assur (Iraq) that mention her. Shammu-Ramat , more famously known by the Greek version of her name Semiramis , was the queen of the Assyrian Empire (811-806 BCE). Jatts - The Farmer Warriors of Punjab

Jatts of Punjab and Jaats of Haryana are the predominant agriculturalist communities in NW India. These pastoralist and agriculturist communities grew up in the lower Indus river-valley of Sindh and then migrating north into the Punjab region and west into Rajasthan, These communities then expanded to Haryana and the western Gangetic Plains. Jatts became the most ardent followers of the Sikh Gurus. So proud was Guru Gobind Singh ji of their allegiance that he challenged Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Zafarnamah  to meet him in Kangar village near Bathinda (Punjab) and said, " No need to worry as Brar tribe will not harm you (Aurangzeb) and there will be no danger to your life, For, the whole tribe of Brars accepts my command ." Jatt Farmer from Punjab Incorrect Categorization Disclaimer :  As a practicing Sikh, I consider all castes as equal and DO NOT believe in the outdated  and divisive caste system. The purpose of this blog is to honor the spiritual, military, and servi...

Understanding Family Titles in Punjab

An important part of Indian culture is an expectation of “display of respect” from those who are younger or are considered socially inferior (subordinates, lowers castes, or anybody who might appear less powerful, etc.). We express this respect in a huge variety of subtle and obvious ways. Punjabi Sikh Family Within the family, We use these terms everyday to call our mothers, fathers, older siblings, and other relations.  In order to understand the meaning of these terms, we have to learn about their linguistic origin and regional affiliations. Punjabi is an ancient language and has its origin in Prakrit , the precursor to the grammatically structured Sanskrit . These terms are deeply rooted in Prakrit and Sankrit languages and has a lot of commonalities with Latin , the mother of all European languages. Honorary Titles for Mother The terms used to honor the mother traces its origin to the hypothetical, reconstructed Proto Indo-European language, of which Sanskrit is the ...

Lost Cities of Punjab - Ancestral Home of Punjabi Communities

Punjabi Ignorance We, the Punjabis historically have not been documenting our own history. The Muslim Punjabis have almost forgotten their genetic ancestry and now try to connect their gene pool to the Arab aristocracy of Sayeds and Qureshis. The Pakistan government ignorantly names its missiles after the Islamic invaders who dispossessed their ancestors from their land. The Hindu Punjabis have written off their own ancestors, warriors kings, and Gurus and relate more to the Middle-India heroes such as Rama, Krishna, and Shivaji, The Sikhs have done a better job in staying connected to their roots but their historical reach is limited just to the Sikh period. Punjab history has to be taken as a whole, and that includes, Adivasis, Indus valley, Aryan Khatris, Kushans, Rajputs, Gujjars, Jatts, Islamic invaders, Sikh period, British rule, and the post independence era. Trinity of Punjabi Pride What's the Problem? So what? The results of this ignorance is astounding. We never ...
