The Problem being Haryana

It's hard being the younger sibling, You are always measured against the bar set by your older sibling. Same is true for the young state of Haryana in India. Its trying to create an image of itself in the shadow of its older sibling - Punjab. It has tried painfully to establish itself as anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh state ever since its conception.

In fact, Haryana is one of the wealthiest states of India and has the third highest per capita income in the country at $2,100. The state is one of the most economically developed regions in South Asia, and it has emerged as the largest recipient of government investment per capita in India.

Ignoring Haryanvi Culture

Over years Haryana governments have made a concerted effort to disassociate themselves from Punjab. Nothing wrong in it, right? Haryana has the right to establish its own language, culture, and traditions that defines its people as Haryanavis. But this is where they have gone wrong! Instead of developing Haryanvi language and culture, it has displayed myopic vision by making it Sikh vs. Hindu division. So, instead of promoting Haryanvi language, it has promoted Sankritized Hindi. A perfect example of this folly is renaming of Gurgaon as Gurugram.
Gurgaon spelled correctly as Gurhgaon
Can someone educate the Hindi Bashers in the Haryana government that the origin of the name Gurgaon comes from Gurh or Jaggery and means the Village of Gurh. In this right-wing dominated political scenario, some urban and most likely non-Haryanvi politician came up with the absurd idea to rename the city as "Guru Gram". The causality of this stupendous decision is the Haryanavi culture.

Nurturing Anti-Punjab Sentiments

Successive Haryana government has tried tho whip the public passion against Punjab and Punjabis for their political gains. Typically, these passions are aroused months prior to the elections in Haryana. During the Sikh militancy period, the Haryana Police were rude and discriminatory against the Sikh travelers passing through Haryana. Provocations such as cutting hairs of Sikhs in anti-Punjab protests were common in those days. Haryana Chief ministers, Bansilal, Devilal, Bhajanlal, and Khatter all are guilty of loose talks to ferment anger against the Punjabis in general and Sikhs in particular.

Harboring Anti-SikhElements

Haryana Chief Minister Khatter with Ram Rahim and Honeypreet
Haryana has given shelter to elements opposed to Sikh establishments. Over time Haryana have supported following religious groups and individuals who originated in Sikhism but were used to create breakaway cults:
  • Sant Nirankari Missions located all over Haryana
  • Namdhari sect based out of Bhaini Sahib, Haryana
  • Dera Sacha Sauda based out of Sirsa, Haryana
  • Piara Singh Bhaniarawala based out of Ambala, Haryana
  • Rampal of Satlok Ashram, Rohtak, Haryana
Violence by Dera Premis after arrest of Ram Rahim
All these people are degenerates who have morphed Sikhism into their own cult attracting Sikhs and Hindus of lower castes in general. Now the chicken has come to roost with violence by these cults destabilizing Haryana and crippling the state government.

Time to Retrospect

Progressive and Modern Gurgaon
The time has come for Haryana to go back to its roots and establish its own culture and promote its language - Haryanvi or Pavidhi. Its culture is robust and can stand on its own without being anti- Punjab or anti-Sikh. Lets celebrate the common cultural bonding such as Teej, rural culture, wrestling, and its own ancient history. Moreover, Haryana is now a prosperous state and it does not need to fight with Punjab over Chandigarh, river water, and other petty issues. I suggest Haryana surrender its claim on Chandigarh as sign of goodwill and build its own capital in Gurgaon. In return, Punjab should reciprocate by sharing the river water as defined on riparian principle.  After all we are brothers, right?
