Dravidian Origin from Out of India?

The Dravidian people are a major collection of ethno-linguistic groups native to South Asia who primarily speak languages belonging to the Dravidian language family. Today, they number around 250 million people, forming the vast majority of the population in South India, These includes speakers of south Indian languages - Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada.

Genetic and archaeological consensus indicates that modern Dravidian emerged from a prehistoric mix. Around 4,000 to 5,000 years ago from Elam and migrated east via Susa, Balochistan, Punjab, and finally settling in Southern India. Here they mixed with aborigines, the native hunter gatherers and are classified as Ancient Ancestral South Indians.

Origin from Elam

The most well-known connection is the Elamo-Dravidian hypothesis, popularized by linguist David McAlpin in the 1970s. He argued that Elamite and Proto-Dravidian (the ancestor of Tamil) belonged to a single language family. The academictheory called Elamo-Dravidian hypothesis proposes an ancient connection. David McAlpin academically articulated that Elamite and Tamil descended from a single ancestral language called Proto-Elamo-Dravidian. The similarities in grammar such as sharing a Subject-Object-Verb (SOV) word order confirm the relationship. Overlapping vocabulary roots further validate this theory. Elamite word for mother, 'am-ma " is same as the Tamil word "Amma" , such as the Elamite word for horse , 'Ku-tira" resembles the Tamil word "Kuthirai".
Linguistic Connection: Elamite-Tamil
Genetic studies on ancient DNA show that modern South Asians—including Tamil people—carry a significant percentage of ancestry tracing back to Neolithic people from Elam. Historians point out that the ancient Tamil name for their homeland is Īḻam (often spelled Eelam), which sounds identical to Elam in Iranian plateau.

These researches indicate this ancestral population split over 5,000 years ago. One branch settled in Southwestern Iran and were called Elamites. While the other branch migrated to India and mixed up with indigenous hunter-gatherers forming the ancestral population of South India.

Matriarchal Society and Religion

The Proto-Dravidians and the Elamites placed immense spiritual value on femininity, fertility, and the natural landscap. Just like Elamites, the proto-Dravidians beived in a supreme feminine or fertility deity connected to agriculture, rain, and protection from disease (precursors to village deities like Mariamman).

Mother Goddess: Tamil and Elam

Elamite theology was based around a powerful holy trinity:

  1. Napirisha: The supreme "Lord of the Earth" associated with primordial waters and frequently symbolized by snakes.
  2. Inshushinak: The powerful patron god of Susa, protector of the weak, and the central judge of the dead in the afterlife.
  3. Kiririsha: The Mother Goddess, lady of the southern high country, and consort to the male gods.

In Proto-Dravidians, Tolkaappiyar refers to the Three Crowned Kings as the "Three Glorified by Heaven", (Tamil: வான்புகழ் மூவர், Vāṉpukaḻ Mūvar):

  1.  Guardian Spirits and Deities such as Ayyanar, Karuppasamy, and Muni
  2.  Supreme Being: The term *wēntantu or *ven is associated with a supreme celestial or governing spirit and influenced names like Venkateshwara
  3. Mother goddess is one of the most prominent, enduring features of Proto-Dravidians with  deities like Mariamman, Yellamma, and Ankamma.

Genetic Link

Modern genetic profiling of South Asian populations breaks down ancestry into three distinct deep-history components:

  1.  Iranian Neolithic/Zagros Ancestry: Migrants from the Zagros mountain region (modern-day western Iran) who moved eastward into South Asia between 8,000 and 6,000 BCE.

  2.  AASI (Ancient Ancestral South Indians): The indigenous hunter-gatherer population of the subcontinent.

  3. Steppe Ancestry: A very small percentage among the South Indian Brahmins show association with Bronze Age Indo-Aryan migrations from Central Asia.

Recent genetic studies on Y-Chromosome Evidence (Haplogroup L1-M22) have provided more tangible proof of this connection through paternal lineages. This specific paternal marker traces back to the Early Holocene in West Asia. It migrated eastward into South India without a massive initial population explosion, roughly around the time the proto-Dravidian language family is thought to have begun spreading.

This genetic lineage is found in high frequencies among Dravidian-speaking populations in southern India, particularly in Tamil, Malayalam, Telagu, and Kannada communities. Today you will find Dravidian people residing globally.

Lost Cities of Punjab - Ancestral Home of Punjabi Communities

Punjabi Ignorance We, the Punjabis historically have not been documenting our own history. The Muslim Punjabis have almost forgotten their genetic ancestry and now try to connect their gene pool to the Arab aristocracy of Sayeds and Qureshis. The Pakistan government ignorantly names its missiles after the Islamic invaders who dispossessed their ancestors from their land. The Hindu Punjabis have written off their own ancestors, warriors kings, and Gurus and relate more to the Middle-India heroes such as Rama, Krishna, and Shivaji, The Sikhs have done a better job in staying connected to their roots but their historical reach is limited just to the Sikh period. Punjab history has to be taken as a whole, and that includes, Adivasis, Indus valley, Aryan Khatris, Kushans, Rajputs, Gujjars, Jatts, Islamic invaders, Sikh period, British rule, and the post independence era. Trinity of Punjabi Pride What's the Problem? So what? The results of this ignorance is astounding. We never ...

Punjab region has been the location of some of the oldest civilizations in the world, the the Indus Valley Civilization. Excavation of pre-historic sites at Harrapa , Mohenjodaro , Ropar , Dholvira , Kalibangan , and Rakhigarhi reveal an advanced society that may be the cradle of Indian civilization. Map of Indus Valley Civilization Political Controversy on Origin of Indo-Aryans During 19th Century European ethnographers and, of course, most famously, Adolf Hitler , also considered Aryans the master race who had conquered Europe, although the German leader considered them to be of Nordic lineage. Hindu right-wingers believe the source of Indian civilization are the Arya - a nomadic tribe of horse-riding, cattle-rearing warrior...
