| FIFA World Cup 2026 Hysteria in USA |
We Americans are living through a soccer hysteria at the moment as we are in the middle phase of 2026 FIFA world cup. And why not ... the whole world loves soccer?
I’m just trying to understand why a lot of us are obsessed with the English club football. I understand the passionate love for sports. But I am genuinely trying to understand why this passionate allegiance for a football club that has nothing to do with you?
British Asians make up around 7% - 9% of the UK population. They practically run the nation’s corner shops, pharmacies, tech sectors, and the government. Yet, on the pitch of the world’s most watched football league, the representation of British Asians hovers somewhere around 0.1%. To put that into perspective, you are statistically more likely to spot a rare albino squirrel riding a unicycle through London than you are to see a British South Asian starting at center-back for Chelsea. How does the love affair with any given club start?

Everyone wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Its a fact that many British Asians attempted to join white clubs during the 1960s and 1970s but they were met with a non-welcoming response, with many being verbally and physically assaulted.
My entire family in UK follows Manchester United as a religious duty. My uncles grew up in Manchester before moving to London in the 1960s. They were first generation immigrants and trying their best to integrate as part of a survival instinct. They learned to curse in perfect Mancunian accents and wear the ManU jersey and scarfs to watch league games over kebab and tandoori chicken grilled by my Masi and Mamis.Once I got in 'big trouble' when I mentioned the banned words - "Liverpool"or "Manchester City".

My cousins still do .. but with pizza and beer. Most follow ManU but some follow Chelsea ... now I am surprised at this choice as Chelsea fans were the most racist of them all in 1908's and I was target of their lager lout behavior once in London Underground.

| Fan lament Manchester United Loss |
But Gurpreet cannot be stopped. He will go online and engage in toxic Twitter warfare with a teenager from Nigeria over whether Habeeb Ogunneye is a British or a Nigerian. The fact that Manchester United has no British Asian player in their entire squad does not cross his mind. He is united with his white, Black, and Hispanic football brothers in the universal language of soccer\\\he last decade. Data suggests that while American and British boys are playing sports at lower rates, the participation in armchair sports watching on TV and video games have increased considerably. with 61% of teenage boys watch TV sports or play video games daily.
